Shanghai,
China: The far-reaching power of the media was evident at Shanghai
Silport recently when a group of 20 Danish golfers visited the
club for two rounds during a recent week-long trip to China.
Jan Firmodt, the chief editor of the Danish golf publication Golf
Magasinet, explained members of the group first learned about
Silport in November while watching television when European Tour
pro Thomas Bjorn finished runner-up at the Volvo China Open.
¡°Thomas Bjorn is the greatest golfer our country has produced
and there is always great interest in Denmark when he is playing.
We all saw the Silport layout on television during the Volvo China
Open so we decided to arrange a trip to China to see the course
for ourselves,¡± he said. ¡°Denmark has about 100 courses and the
sport is growing, but right now it is too cold to golf.¡±
Just like the Great Danes who conquered and explored Europe in
ancient times, the visitors made the most of their China trip.
During their stay they also flew to Tsingdao to play Silport¡¯s
sister course, Tiger Beach Golf Links, as well as take in the
sights of both Shanghai and Beijing.
