THE GOLF TOURNAMENT OF 3RD ALL CHINA GAMES IN SILPORT

Silport¡¯s amateur program received a huge boost when the club¡¯s Zhou Jun captured a silver medal at the recent 3rd All China Games and in the process, secured himself a spot on the national team.

The Tianjin native who has worked in customer service at the club¡¯s Citygolf driving range for the past five years, carded a 72-hole aggregate score of 296 over the Silport Championship Course (West and Center layouts) to finish nine shots behind runaway leader Wu Ashun of Fujian. Wang Rong Jiang of Shanghai finished third in the field that featured 78 male and 46 female amateurs from around the country.

Zhou started his campaign strong with an opening round 67. As the weather turned windy and wet, he followed with a 74 and a 79 before closing with a 76. He will now go to Mission Hills Golf Club in Guangdong where he will be one of 10 players training on the national team. Later in the year, four players will be selected to represent China at the upcoming Asian Games to be held in Doha, Qatar, in December.

Silport general manager Jack Huang called Zhou¡¯s performance outstanding and a pay off for the club¡¯s work with amateurs. He said the club wanted to train more youngsters and he encouraged those interested in the game to enroll in various classes available at the Citygolf range over the summer under the instruction of head pro Michael Dickie.
