Shanghai: Silport capped off a memorable 2007 when the club hosted its Year-end Cup Membership Invitational for 120 members and their guests over the Center and East courses.

During a year when Silport hosted the Volvo China Open for a record seventh occasion, club members got to test the progress of their game over the same layout the national championship was contested on in April on a sunny winter’s day late in the golf season.

With a host of fantastic prizes on offer, including a Mercedes-Benz E230 sedan and air tickets for a hole-in-one, local man Jin Guangxia won the gross champion’s crown for the members when he shot a seven-over 79.

Other members’ honors went to Zhou Chenghui who claimed the nett champion prize with a 70, just ahead of Kenichi Kuse (nett 71) and Duan Yezhong (nett 71.2). South Korean Hae Hahn was the nett lady’s champion with a 77.2.

In the guest category, Long Quanwen topped the 120-man field with a low gross score of three-over 75 and Chinese Taipei’s Shi Chenhu claimed the guest nett with a 70.4.

While the Mercedes-Benz went unclaimed, Ma Qiyang and Jin Guangxia received long drive prizes for mighty blasts of 305 and 280 yards, respectively, and Luo Chongyan and Rajeev Chopra each claimed a nearest-the-pin.

With Santa Claus on hand for the evening party and the prize giving, the mood was understandably festive. As Filipino band Jalus entertained, all the members and guests received a gift. Qiao Yun won the special banana prize of a business-class round trip air ticket from Shanghai to Seoul courtesy of Kumho Tires.
