2ND EUROPEAN TOUR EVENT FOR CHINA

CHINA will hold a second tournament this year on the PGA European Tour.

The 10th China Open, jointly sanctioned by the Asian PGA Tour and European Tour, will be played Nov. 25-28 at Shanghai’s Silport Club, it was announced Tuesday.

The Asian Open had been set for May 13-16 at the Tomson Golf Club in Shanghai.

“Seeing the way China’s economy is moving forward, I am sure the Volvo China Open will become a landmark fixture in future European Tour schedules,’’ said George O’Grady, deputy executive of the PGA European Tour.

Alhough played this year, China the Open will count as the first event on the 2005 Order of Merit calendar, the season’s money list.

New to the European Tour, the China Open has been a fixture for several years on the PGA Asian Tour.

The inaugural China Open was won by Paraguay’s Raul Fretes at Beijing International Golf Club in 1995. Silport has staged the event for the last five years, with local player Zhang Lianwei winning last year’s title.(SD-Agencies)
