2004-Feb-11 09:15: China's
growing importance on the international sporting stage and growing
economy has won it a second tournament on this year's PGA European
Tour.
Shanghai Silport Golf Club, recently named as ‘Host Venue
of the Year 2003’ by the Asian Tour professionals, will host
the first Volvo China Open to be jointly sanctioned between |

he Asian
Tour and The European Tour from November 25-28, 2004.
The event has been a regular on the Asian circuit in recent years,
and will be the first event to count towards the 2005 Volvo Order
of Merit.
Said the event's executive director Alistair Polson: "The
forecast for China's economic growth is good so we can forecast
some very good years ahead for the Volvo China Open."
The Tomson Golf Club in Shanghai is already hosting the Asian
Open in May.
Added Mel Pyatt, president and CEO of Volvo Event Management:
"We are delighted to return to Silport.
"By joining the European Tour we have a much bigger event
with worldwide television exposure and we needed a venue of the
highest quality. Silport has always been good but now it has matured
into a top class layout with some of the best putting surfaces
I've come across in Asia."
