Shanghai: After months of build-up and great anticipation following various monthly medal events, Chen Guoying and Li Liyun made the inaugural Silport Grand Monthly Medal competition a memorable occasion when the husband and wife team dominated the proceedings.

With the field made up of 30 monthly medal winners and runner-ups over the year, teeing off from both the North and West Course layouts, Chen, a 17 handicap, registered a masterful round of 88 under sunny and calm conditions for a nett 71 and the Nett Champion of Group A (handicaps 1-18) title. Sixteen handicap Gao Dinggui (92) was a distant runner-up with a nett 76.

Chen’s better half Li, a popular and enthusiastic participant in Silport’s various members events, was equally impressive as the 19 handicap matched her husband’s 88 score to finish with a nett 69, the lowest of the day, and the Nett Champion of Group B (handicaps above 19) honor. Huang Lixin was runner-up as the 23 handicap carded a 98 for a nett 75.

Also recognized on the day was Jiang Ruichang for improving his handicap from 31 to 14 over the course of the year. For this he was honored with the most improved player award.

After starting the day with a tee-off ceremony and drum performance to mark the historical occasion, the festivities carried on to the prize presentation party in the evening as everyone gathered on the stage to toast the winners.
