Shanghai: Less than 24 hours after capturing the nett champion honor for group B in the Silport Grand Monthly Medal to determine the inaugural club champion, Li Liyun added the Year-end Membership Invitational to her list of titles with an impressive performance over the East and Center Courses.

Playing under a New Peoria scoring format in the last members’ tournament of the Silport year, Li, a 4.8 handicap, shot a three-over 75 to claim the gross champion prize. Her nett 70.2 was also the best in the tournament but as the rules stipulated one player couldn’t win both titles, runner Chen Jing (nett 72.4) was declared the winner after a round of 82.

Among the men, Li Yusen won the nett championship by virtue of his nett 67.2 as the 22.8 handicap shot 90 to finish ahead of youngster Xie Renyi (70.4) and Duan Yezhong (70.8).

The longest-drive competition also proved a battle of the sexes as a Ms Jiangdan executed a 260-yard blast, only to be outdone by a Mr Kawamura who smashed his ball an impressive 290 yards down the fairway.

The nearest-the-pin contest was deadlocked as Chen Guoying, the husband of Li Liyun and the group A winner in the Grand Monthly Medal the day before, and a Mr Miyazawa both put their shots within three feet of the flagstick. Luo Huie went even better when she recorded a hole-in-one and received a laptop computer for her perfect shot.

Also recognized was Lin Yufeng as the most frequent member, playing 75 times over the year, and runner-up Jin Zhuying who made 70 appearances at the club. Nine people also won prizes through the lucky draw.

At the presentation ceremony after the competition, the prizes donated by the various sponsors were in abundance. The level of fun and anticipation was increased dramatically when every participant was given a prize package. Under the instruction of the emcee, the package had to be passed on several times during the course of the evening until the person’s true gift was finally revealed.
