Shanghai: Silport members got a break from the constant rain of late when the skies cleared up for the 50 players contesting the March monthly medal. Playing under cloudy conditions over the West and North courses, the first day of the month provided welcome relief for the enthusiastic group as it was the first time in two weeks without rain.

With the players in an upbeat mood, Wang Jian captured the nett champion of Group A (handicaps 1-18) when the 17 handicap shot a 93 for a nett 76. Three handicap Jin Yuan Zhu finished a close second when he carded an 80 for a nett 77.
The competition was equally tight in Group B (handicaps 19 and above) when Kang Cheolki, a 22 handicap, shot a 96 for a nett 74, to finish first, just ahead of Japanese member Inuma Yoshikazu (99) with a nett 76.
Yu Jing made sure the ladies figured in the outcome when she put her tee shot to 1.5 feet of the flag on the West Course eighth hole to claim the nearest-the-pin. Ping Sujun had the long drive honor with a 260-yard blast on the North Course seventh hole.
A Chinese banquet followed the golf as the players repaired to the VIP party room on the second floor for the awards presentation. Group B runner-up Yoshikazu said he was so happy to have qualified for the Grand Final as he had worked so hard on his game last year and his efforts had paid off.
As its title implies, the monthly medal is a competition strictly for Silport members.
