Shanghai: SilportĄ¯s Korean membership demonstrated its dominance at the June Monthly Medal as a husband and wife team emerged the star performers of the day.

With a small field of 45 players competing for a spot in the year-end Grand Final, Kim Sooun booked his spot for SilportĄ¯s second annual club championship when the 18 handicap shot an 85 under sunny conditions to win the nett champion of Group A (handicaps one to 18) with a nett 67. He also won the closest-to-the-pin when he put his tee shot to 18 inches from the flag on the East Course third hole, while his wife made it a memorable day for the Koreans when she took the longest-drive with a blast of 230 yards on the Center Course ninth hole. Local man Zhang Bao Kun (nett 69) finished the Group A nett runner-up.
Showing the diverseness of SilportĄ¯s membership, Japanese member Yoshikazu Ogoshi advanced to the final when the 20 handicap carded a 91 for a nett 71 and the Group B (handicaps 19 and above) nett champion title. Countryman Noda Tadashi was a close runner-up with a nett 72.
At the prize presentation afterwards, an indoor putting machine gave the players the opportunity to win prizes such as red wine and sun block, among others. Gu Zhen Liang, however, won the ultimate prize when his putting prowess earned him a spot in the year-end Grand Final.
As its title implies, the monthly medal is a competition strictly for Silport members.
