| Shanghai: SilportĄ¯s July Monthly Medal proved a test of endurance for the field of 50-strong participants as the temperature hovered around the 35 degrees Celsius mark. The extreme heat, however, was no problem for Silport members Hyung Hahn and Mr Fujuki as both kept their cool to win their respective divisions and advance to the year-end Grand Monthly Medal..
Playing over the East and Center courses, Hyung emerged the nett champion of Group A (handicaps one to 18) as the 15 handicap carded a round of 82 for a nett 67. Kong Qi finished runner-up after the 14 handicap shot 85 for a nett 71.

The honor for the Group B (handicaps 19 and above) crown proved an all-Japanese affair as Mr Fujuki, a 23 handicap, shot a 91 for a winning score of nett 68. Runner-up Mr Kawabata (nett 70) had a memorable day as he also won the nearest-the-pin prize after putting his tee shot to within three feet of the flag on the East Course third hole.
Mr Ozawa added to the Japanese dominance when he blasted his tee shot about 250 yards down the fairway of the Center Course ninth hole for the long-drive title.
At the party afterwards, a Mr Nakashima had his name pulled from a lucky draw to book his place in the 2009 Grand Monthly Medal, joining Hyung, Kong, Fujuki and Kawabata in the tournament to decide SilportĄ¯s second club champion.
As its title implies, the monthly medal is a competition strictly for Silport members.
