The March Monthly Medal, the first competition after the Chinese New Year, attracted a field of 30 players as the putting green proved a crowded spot prior to the tournament.
With many of the players competing for the first time this year, Urabe Hisashi showed no rust to his game as the Japanese member shot a 91 over the East and Center courses for a nett 75 and the Nett Champion Group A (handicaps 1-18) honor. For good measure, the 16 handicap also added the long-drive prize on the Center Course ninth hole. Kong Qi was the Group A runner-up with a nett 75 following a round of 79.
In Group B (handicaps 19 and above), Kobayashi Toshinori cemented the Japan dominance of the day when the 26 handicap shot 101 for a nett 75 to claim the honor. Countryman Miyake Kenichi was runner-up with a nett 79.
Urabe Hisashi won the nearest-the-pin on the East Course third hole when he put his shot to within three feet of the flag & Bryan Huang win the longest drive on the Center Course ninth hole for 240 yards.
Hisashi, Kong, Toshinori and Kenichi have all qualified for December’s Grand Monthly Medal to determine the third Silport club champion. Also qualifying is Tokunaga Yo whose name was pulled from a lucky draw.
As its title implies, the monthly medal is a competition strictly for Silport members. All club members are welcome to participate in this event designed to bring players together in a competitive situation. We look forward to seeing you at the April Medal.
