 Sunny skies greeted a record field of about 60 players for the June Monthly Medal as a Korean couple advanced to the December Grand Final, each through very different approaches.
Playing over the North and West courses, Roh Eun-hee shot well below her 22 handicap to card a 15-over 87. Her nett 65 allowed her to claim the nett runner-up prize in Group B (handicaps 19 and above) behind nett champion Sung Ho-choy, the dominant player of the day. In addition to shooting an 80 for a nett 60 to top Group B, he also unleashed a 285-yard blast on the West Course ninth hole for the long drive prize.
In Group A (handicaps 1-18), Yu Xiao Qiu topped the table when the 18 handicap shot an 83 for a nett 65. Hu Chin Yuan was runner-up after a round of 84 and a nett 67.
All four players now advance to the year-end grand final.
At the party following the golf, there was much laughter, surprise and joy when Roh¡¯s husband, Kim Jeong-hwan, also earned a spot in the final when his name was pulled in a lucky draw. Also honored was Japanese member Ozawa Kenji who claimed the nearest-the-pin when he put his tee shot to within three feet of the flag on the North Course sixth hole.
The post-golf celebration proved a memorable affair as a putting game at the award ceremony kept the competitive mood going. With a Silport staff members designated by the players as their representatives, the interest was high as the big prize was a round-trip ticket to Japan courtesy of Japan Airlines. Also on offer were Cleveland sand wedges, Formby Run red wine, an O.Spa Journey coupon and PF energy bars, among others.
As its title implies, the Monthly Medal is a competition strictly for Silport members.
