Shanghai: The enthusiasm of Silport members to engage in competition, whatever the conditions, was clearly evident at the August Monthly Medal as despite the extremely hot weather, the tournament still managed to draw a field of 45 enthusiastic participants.
With the temperature hovering in the high 30s, Makoto Takahashi stayed cool over the West and North course to shoot a round of 84 for a nett 67 and the Group A (handicaps one to 18) nett champion honor. Hung Jui Teng finished runner-up after an 86 and a nett 71.
Li Li Yun, the only woman in the field and a regular competitor in the Monthly Medal competitions, emerged nett champion in Group B (handicaps 19 and above) after the 22 handicap shot an 87 for a nett 65. Qian Jing Hong was runner up with a nett 67 following a round of 88.
K.T. Kim won the long drive on the West Course finishing hole, while Kong Qi took the nearest-the-pin on the North Course sixth hole.
The MC of the event also designed a fun game for the post-game prize ceremony where participants were required to fish for as much as ice as possible using a fork in 30 seconds. Kuze Kenichi won a first-class, round-trip air ticket to Hainan Island.
Takahashi, Hung, Li and Qian now all advance to the Grand Final.
