Right after the Audi Invitational in October,
Shanghai Silport Golf Club (SSGC) held another major event on November
22 – the first Air Macau Golf Invitational. The tournament
invited 153 players. Again, SSGC sees an enthusiastic participation
despite the cold weather from an early winter. The tournament participants
included not only the Taiwanese and Hong Kong business tycoons,
but high level executives from the airline and cargo industries.
Many of them are members of SSGC.
At the famous Hole Eight, Air Macau set up a sizeable prize for
a hole-in-one. Half way through the tournament, a report came in
that on Hole Two, Mr. Shi Wen-hun of Sakura Holdings shot a hole-in-one.
Despite not winning the Air Macau prize, the news of Mr. Shi’s
hole-in-one won members’ congratulations and built up the
tournament spirit even higher.
Another highlight of the tournament is a famous Taiwanese actor,
Mr. Liu De-kai, also participated in it. Immediately recognized
by one of the caddies, Mr. Liu was the object of many photo opportunities.
Mr. Liu is one of numerous celebrities playing at SSGC.
At the award ceremony dinner, the President of Air Macau, Mr. Kong
Dong, presented the awards to the gross winner, Mr. Liu Man-tian,
and net winner, Mr. Peng Yong-mo. Not only did the winners receive
fabulous trophies, but also Air Macau business class tickets from
Shanghai to Taipei. Mr. Kong announced that Air Macau would add
more flights between Shanghai and Taipei during the busy Chinese
Spring Festival holidays, to accommodate the needs of the Taiwanese
businessmen.
The Air Macau Invitational was not only a good opportunity for players
to hone their skills, but also presented a good forum for airlines
and cargo operators to meet. SSGC also allowed the guests and club
members to mingle and discuss business opportunities. It is no wonder
that more and more tournament sponsors are looking to SSGC to host
large tournaments.
