China: Chen Jing continued her dominance at Shanghai Silport members’
tournaments as she followed up her nett win at the Christmas Cup
with a victory at the Spring Membership Cup.
Playing in a field of 128 players under both rainy and sunny conditions,
the 19 handicap (pictured) shot a gross 87 for a nett 68 in the
members’ category. She also captured the long-drive contest
in the first members’ tournament of the year. |

For her achievements, Chen received two crystal trophies, an assortment
of merchandise from Nike and a bottle of Chivas Regal. In addition,
she also won a return business-class ticket from Shanghai to Tokyo
on Japan Airlines.
The other long-drive winner was member Chen Xingjian.
In the members’ category, Kwang Jin-yoo, an 11 handicap
from Korea, shot a round of 13-over-par 85 over the West and Center
layouts to take the low gross honour.
Among the visitors, Ms Shidan, a 10.8 handicap, shot an impressive
round of 83 for the low gross and the best round among the ladies
on the day. Mr Kabayashi, a 20.4 handicap shot a round of 93 for
a nett 72.6 and the low nett prize.
Other winners included Fu Ke-tao and Jing Guji from Sanyo Shanghai
who captured the two nearest-the-pin holes.
The winners and participants were all eligible to win a host of
prizes as the sponsors for the tournament included Sanyo Electronics,
Japan Airlines, Chivas Regal, Sweet Golf World, Starbucks Coffee,
LG Electronics, Shanghai JC Mandarin, the Four Seasons Hotel Shanghai,
Asiana Airlines, Nike and President Enterprize.
“I was really encouraged by the turnout for the first tournament
of the year,’’ said Jack Huang, Silport’s vice
general manager. “We plan to offer a lot of different events
that our members can participate and compete in during the course
of the year as it is a really effective method of letting our
membership get to know each other,’’ he said.
