“Golf is a mental game and one that is
very challenging. You have to be focused, patient, hard working
and have strategic thinking. That kind of philosophy can also
be applied to how you conduct your business. For us, most importantly,
it is a way to have fun and to bring together all of our vendors,”
Lin said.
Playing under dry but cold and windy conditions
at Silport, Victor Lin, High-Tek Harness Elterprise Director,
captured the low gross honor when the 16.8 handicap shot a 17-over
par 89 to lead the 120-man field.
C.H.Chen won the low net award when the Semtech
Asia Managing Director, a 24 handicap, shot a 24-over-par for
a net 72.
Not surprisingly, with wind blowing hard, no one
won the car prize that was being offered by Asian Alliance Risk
Services Taiwan for a hole-in-one on the 8th holes of the West
and Center Courses.
The Taiwan-based Lin, a 22.8 handicap who finished
with a score of 101, called the tournament a success and a good
way to start what he hoped would be a promising year for Wistron.
The company, which is 40 percent owned by computer
giant Acer, manufactures computer notebooks, desktop PCs, PDAs
and set-top boxes for such companies as Dell Computer, Hewlett-Packard
and Microsoft. Last year it was appointed by Microsoft to manufacture
the software company’s popular Xbox computer game.
“It has been a good year for Wistron,’’
said Lin. “We probably had about 20 percent growth compared
to a year ago which I believe is acceptable given such a very
tough economic situation.
“What pleases me is that we seized momentum
and we hope that we can achieve more strong growth this year.
China plays a key role in our future. We have a fairly wide range
of installations here, not only in manufacturing but also for
research and development, sales and marketing and after-sales
service. Certainly we will put more resources here in future because
I believe it is the right decision and one that will become increasingly
more important in the long run.”
During the three-day meeting in Shanghai, the 120 Wistron executives
and vendors attended two vendor conferences, a technology show
and toured Suzhou Garden. The meetings closed with a vendor awards
dinner. |
