Shanghai, China: Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business made
a welcome return to Shanghai Silport as the country’s first
private business school staged its Golf Classic, the first of
three tournaments it will host during the year.
With a field consisting of students, staff and invited guests
from the Executive MBA programs at Fudan University and China
Europe International Business School in addition to the Fosun
Hi-Tech Group, Lie Jie proved the big winner on the day, capturing
the low gross title and two nearest-the-pin prizes.
Playing over Silport’s Championship layout, Li, Cheung Kong’s
MBA program executive director, carded an 11-over 83 for the win.
The 13 handicap who has been playing golf for six years, said
it was his second victory in a month after earlier winning a tournament
hosted by China Mineral Metal.
Li explained that CKGSB would also hold tournaments in Beijing
and Guangdong later this year. It hosted its first event at Silport
last year.
“We hosted this tournament because golf closely relates
to our EMBA program. Like golf, it requires a systematic way of
thinking that is comprehensive, analytical and disciplined in
order to achieve your goals,” Li said.
“I was just lucky to win this tournament but I have played
Silport on many occasions. It really is a course where you have
to be disciplined and think your way around to meet the challenges
that each hole presents.”
Other winners on the day included Jin Hui as the 19.2 handicap
shot a 92 for a nett 72.8 and the low nett prize. The long drive
prizes were won by Wong Chong Jiu and Fu Zhong, chairman of Shenyang
Hejin Holding Investment, one of the sponsors of the tournament.
Li said it was a very exciting time for the business school that
was established in 2002 by the Li Ka-Shing Foundation. In the
second half of the year, it will begin construction of a permanent
facility in Beijing while a Shanghai facility would be built in
the future. It currently occupies two buildings in the Cypress
Hotel locally.
The mission of the school is to create world-class leaders with
an extensive knowledge of Asia and to advance management theories
and practices. With emphasis on both research and training, its
goal is to become a world-class business school within 10 years.
The school currently offers MBA, EMBA and Ph.D degrees.
