Silport acted as the host venue for the second stop of the Martell
Elite Cup Golf Tour as the luxury cognac maker entertained a field
of 108 players made up of its VIP customers and clients.
Thibaut de Poutier de Sone, the commercial director for Pernod
Ricard, the French drinks giant which owns Martell & Co, made
the trip to Asia especially for the event. He said Asia Pacific
was a particularly important growth area for the company.
“In these particular times, there is now more and more people
caring about their life quality. Golf is also a very high quality
sport that fits into that type of thinking,” he said. “When
it comes to cognac, Martell fits into that type of thinking too.
Martell is developing very well in China and we hope more and

more people can enjoy a high-quality life and appreciate its qualities.”
For its 2003 sales, Pernod Ricard, the world’s third largest
spirits firm and producers of such famous brands as Chivas Regal
Scotch, Bushmill whiskey, Pernod and Wild Turkey, to name but
a few, reported its sales dropped 27 percent due to a strong euro
and from the sale of its non-drink assets.
In contrast, it sales in Asia Pacific was its growth leader, posting
an 18 percent increase year-on-year. China, Thailand, India and
Taiwan were singled out as the company’s hot markets.
Playing on Silport’s Championship layout under extremely
hot conditions, Zhou Jie captured the low nett honor when the
16.8 handicap shot an 87 for a nett 70.2. Choi Guang Hui, a 2.4
handicap, was runner-up with a nett 71.6, beating Chen Qi Chang
on a countback.
Zhang Qin, a model by trade, beat all the men competitors to claim
the longest drive contest. Wang Gang won the nearest-the-pin contest.
A ceremony was held after the tournament where the winners received
such prizes as trophies, cognac, wine, golf clubs and golf bags.
