MERRILL LYNCH CLIENTS TAKE THE SILPORT CHALLENGE |
Merrill Lynch (Asia Pacific) entertained its global private clients
and senior managers with a golf outing at Silport, the first tournament
it has held in mainland China.
|
Oh Eng Lock, market managing director, global private
client for the financial giantĄ¯s Asia Pacific operation, said
the company had held tournaments for years in Hong Kong and Taiwan,
but never on the mainland. He called it a good way to get to know
its private banking customers as the 90-player field was made
up primarily of overseas Asian expatriates and Chinese.
The American financial institution is likely to gain a bigger
profile in China soon as it was reported recently that it is looking
for an investment bank venture in the country to manage share
sales and trade bonds.
On SilportĄ¯s Championship course which was made especially tough
with the layout being prepared for the upcoming VolvoChina
Open, Li Gang took the low gross as the six handicap fired a 10-over-par
82. Huang Chao Seng was runner-up with an 85 on a countback.

72.4, the low nett score on the day. Howard Lu was runner-up as
the 14.4 handicap shot an 87 for a nett 72.6.
Other prizes went to Paul Wu who won the long drive contest for
his 270-yard blast while Alice Tan took the ladies long drive
with a 173-yard hit. Nearest-the-pin honors went to Yang Xiang
Hai and Song Hui.
After their round, the players repaired to the Silport clubhouse
for a meal and prize ceremony. Among the prizes were clubs from
Taylormade, Callaway 2-ball putters, a Cleveland wedge, a Srixon
XXIO driver and fashion items from Hardy Amies. |
