Shanghai: After
a long cold winter, Silport members were finally able to display
their competitive mettle when the club staged its first member¡¯s
tournament of the year, the Silport Spring Cup.
With a ¡°Fortune Tour to Egypt¡± trip courtesy of the Egyptian Consulate
and Focus on Golf International Group on offer in a lucky draw,
the competition attracted a field of 110 players under rainy conditions.
Playing on the club¡¯s Championship layout, the wet conditions
did not dampen member Kim Guangxia¡¯s enthusiasm as the 9.6 handicap
carded an 84 in the Group A category (scratch to 15 handicap players)
to claim the gross champion honor. Twelve handicap Lee Renheng
finished one stroke further back and walked away with the nett
champion honor following a nett 73.
In the Group B category for handicaps of 16 to 22, Duan Yezhong
shot an impressive nine-over 81 to claim the low gross. Ling Boming,
a 19.2 handicap, shot a 91 for a nett 71.8 score and the nett
championship.
Group C that featured players with handicaps of 23 and above,
saw Zhuang Juzhen fire an 88 to be named gross champion. An Changmo,
a 25.2 handicap, was the nett winner with a nett 71.8.
Ian Bell claimed the guest category as the 16.8 handicap shot
91 for a nett 74.2 and the nett championship.
Following the tournament, the members repaired to the upstairs
dining room where dinner and a slew of prizes from sponsors Bearingpoint,
Mizuno, Sanyo, Toto, China Airlines, JC Mandarin Hotel, Yamaha
and Oral-B were on offer.
Tokiko Sato, the wife of Silport member Kenzo Sato, walked like
an Egyptian when she claimed the grand prize through a lucky draw.
Her eight-day trip to the ancient African country in May includes
a spot in the 1st Egypt-China Commercial Elite Golf Invitational,
a four-round tournament designed to promote Egyptian golf to potential
ZH tourists.
The next member¡¯s tournament, Best Partner, will be held May 10.
