WET WEATHER DOES LITTLE TO DAMPEN ENTHUSIASM FOR SUMMER CUP

Shanghai: The diversity of the Silport members was evident at the Summer Membership Cup as players from no less than three countries took home top honors in three of the prize categories.

Playing under wet conditions from a shotgun start on the Center and West course layouts, Filipino member Julius Santos topped the 96-man field when he shot a 9-over 81 to capture the low gross title. The seven handicap, pipped guest Xia Xinghua by one stroke.

Other honors saw Mao Weiping capture the low nett when the Shanghai native, a 19 handicap, shot a round of 91 for a nett score of 72. Lee Ju-ae was the best of the ladies as the South Korean, a 20 handicap, shot a 93 for a nett 73 and the female nett champion prize.

Also among the winners was Hu Yungen who captured the guest low nett when the 21.6 handicap shot a gross 95 for a nett 73.4. Liang Jianbing and Bao Shanghao won longest drive prizes on the West and Center courses, respectively, while J.E. Nam and Hua Liang each claimed a nearest-the-pin honor.

After the on-course action concluded, the Summer Membership Cup finished with a memorable party in the upstairsĄ¯ dining room for the prize presentation. To help them get in the spirit of the evening, Royal Grail Scotch whisky offered the guests a wee dram, while Cigar Ambassador handed out its latest products.

After the prizes from Mizuno and the other sponsors were handed out to the winners, a team of dancers took to the stage, encouraging the active participation of the members to do likewise to much laughter.

Following the dinner, Sarah Tao, SilportĄ¯s deputy general manager, came to the stage to thank the participants and the sponsors on behalf of the club.

The next membership tournament is the Autumn Cup on Sunday, September 24. We look forward to your participation.
