Silport ushers in a new era of world-class golf instruction with the grand opening of the Shanghai Silport David Leadbetter Golf Academy on September 16 at its CityGolf driving range. The academy is the 23rd operated by the famed Zimbabwean swing guru worldwide and the first in eastern China.
The Leadbetter method, which has been a key factor behind the success of such Major winners as Ernie Els and Nick Faldo, as well as teen star Michelle Wie and top Chinese junior Hu Mu, was developed on the theories and philosophies that the golf swing is based on an effective method that is fundamentally simple and easy to repeat.
To prepare for the academy’s arrival, the Qingpu range has undergone extensive renovation with the construction of a real-grass practice area for putting, chipping, pitching and bunker play. In addition, further changes have been made to the CityClub interior and the driving range area.
The opening day festivities start with a demo day at 2pm with free range balls. After a free junior clinic at 4pm, a golf skills competition will be contested at 5pm. The official David Leadbetter Golf Academy opening ceremony takes place at 6pm, followed by the prize giving for the skills competition. The festivities continue with a barbeque and free range balls until 8pm.
