COURSE KNOWLEDGE PAYS OFF FOR MEMBER KEN JEWSBURY

Shanghai: Silport member Ken Jewsbury used his course knowledge to good effect when the Australian finished among the winning group at the Greater China Dow Chemical Golf Day held recently at the club.

Playing from a shotgun start in a Texas Scramble scoring format over the North and West course layouts, 10-handicap Jewsbury, a Silport member for the past three years and the organizer of the event, led his team of Wallace Deng, Zhou Ruting and Dai Dongchang to a winning score of 52.7. The team of Zhang Yaorong, Harry Liu, Bob Wang and Poli Luciano finished runner-up (56.1).

Other honors on the day went to Jan Bent Schutrops when he claimed the longest drive with a 240-yard blast on the West No. 9. James Ni narrowly missed getting an ace when he put his ball to within 40 centimeters of the flag on the North No. 3 to win the nearest-the-pin prize.

It was evident that there was some good players among the 83-man field as 12 of the guests manage to beat the professional on the ¡°Beat the Pro¡± hole.
