Shanghai: Operational risk management specialists DNV brought together its clients and key executives when the Norwegian giant hosted the DNV Golf Day Shanghai 2007 at Silport.
Playing under perfect conditions over the East and North course layouts, Bernie Beaudoin topped the 30-man field when he carded an 11-over 83 to claim the low gross honor. Park Suk-heung finished runner-up four shots off the pace, while Xu Junfeng was second-runner-up after a 93.
Kody Chan was crowned low nett champion with a nett 72.4 but it was the contest to decide the nett runner-up that proved the most interesting battle of the day. With Henry Chiang and Peter Armitage tied at a score of nett 73.8, a putting contest was held upstairs during the celebration dinner to break the deadlock. With the entire field and invited guests looking on during the unusual tie-breaker, Chiang emerged victorious to great applause from the ¡°gallery.¡±
While the entire field agreed that Silport was a course that offered a great risk and reward strategy with its abundance of water, DNV has been helping its clients navigate China for about 120 years. The company first set up its maritime business in China in 1888 and now has 31 offices in 21 cities throughout Greater China. Earlier this year, the company won a US$300,000 software contract with China Petroleum Chemical Group (Sinopec) to provide safety and environment risk assessments.
