MIZUNO EVENT ATTRACTS BEST OF CITY¡¯S GOLF FRATERNITY

Shanghai: Mizuno showcased its latest offerings in style when the Japanese sporting goods giant hosted its namesake Golf Invitational at Silport in an event that attracted the best players in the city.

With a host of prizes on offer, including a Hyundai Santa Fe car for a hole-in-one on the Center No. 8 hole as well as the latest products from Mizuno Golf, the 105 players teed off from a shotgun start over Silport¡¯s East and Center course layouts. Playing under a New Peoria scoring format from a shotgun start, Wang Zhengxing set the pace when the local man carded a blistering one-over 73 to claim the low gross honor. Compatriot Gao Hua finished runner-up with a 78 after beating Zhou Yong on a count-back.

Zhou Dianqiang was crowned nett champion (nett 68), while Kim Soo-young (nett 72.2) and a Mr. Matsashita (73) were first and second runner-up respectively. In the nearest-the-pin contests, Long Quanwen put his ball within 4.5 feet of the flag on the Center No. 2 hole, while Zhou Yong was again honored for closest-to-the-pin on the East No. 3.
The chance to be named ¡°the Longest Drive King¡± proved the most interesting of the side contests as the rules stated that a Mizuno driver had to be used to win the honor. When it was all over, a Mr. Matsashita of Japan was crowned ¡°King¡± after he smashed his drive about 280 yards down the Center No. 9 fairway.

Even with all the top talent present, the Hyundai car on offer went unclaimed and the players had to make do with a test drive of the latest offerings from the South Korean auto giant.

The Mizuno event proved a memorable event for all as the Japanese giant displayed its latest golf innovations in its JPX and MP-Craft series of drivers, fairway woods, utility woods and irons. Also on view was the company¡¯s new line of Cross Eight 401 balls as well as the latest in bags, shoes, gloves and apparel.

The after-golf dinner party also provided its share of highlights as the evening included a fashion show of Mizuno Golf Sport clothing, as well as jazz, acrobatics and old Shanghai dancing.

Also on hand was top ZH professional Shang Lei who drew the ticket for the lucky draw. The Beijing native called Silport his lucky course as it was here that he qualified for this year¡¯s Volvo China Open after earning a spot at the southeast China pre-qualifier.
