CONDITIONS ¡®PERFECT¡¯ FOR DEUTSCHE BANK¡¯S SILPORT RETURN

Shanghai: Silport welcomed back old friends Deutsche Bank when the German lender returned to host its namesake ¡°Private Wealth Management Asian Golf Challenge¡± over the Center and East courses.

With the field of 91 players made up of ZH mainlanders, Silport members and Deutsche Bank guests, some from as far away as Singapore, the competition was fierce with a host of prizes, including a Bali holiday, on offer. The gala tournament was first-class from the word go as players could warm up for their round by getting some tips from the pros at a golf clinic held at the driving range.

When the tournament got underway from a shotgun start, Stephen Edkins dominated the proceedings when the founding partner of Diverso Management, an investment firm that specializes in renewable energy, shot an impressive six-over 78 for the low gross honor.

The other big winner on the day was He Bin. As a frequent visitor to the club, the 10.8 handicap used his course knowledge to shoot an 80 and win the Division A low nett prize (69.2), just ahead of Silport members Gu Jun (69.6) and Gu Hongren (71.8)

He Bin said he felt at home at Silport and liked the ¡°quiet¡± natural feeling of the layout as well as the good service. His achievements at the club have been many as in addition to winning a nearest-the-pin prize at the Deutsche Bank Challenge, he also recorded a hole-in-one at Silport earlier this year when he achieved an ace on the North Course sixth hole in March.

Other winners on the day included CE Lin as he claimed the Division B low nett with a nett 72.6 score. Liu Lifan (73) was runner-up followed by Chen Feng (76.6). The trio of Huang Qinglong, Liu Mantian and Lu Meijuan combined to win the best scoring team prize, while Zhu Zhiwei smoked his tee shot 280 yards on the East No. 9 for the longest drive.

Also taking home prizes were Gu Yizhen and Lu Meijuan for the closest-to-the-line contest and Gao Lingguo for the other nearest-the-pin. Five others were in an elite group as they all topped Karl Ableidinger in the Beat the Pro hole. At the dinner party that followed, a Deutsche Bank official called the conditions at Silport ¡°close to perfect¡± and a prime reason why the lender continued to return to the club each year.
