Shanghai: Silport welcomed back some auld Scottish friends when eight members of a trade delegation from the ¡°Home of Golf¡± contested the annual Tartan Day Reunion Golf Invitational.
With the tournament in a friendly China versus Scotland format, the hosts proved too much in triumphing over the visitors. Zhang Aiwen and Li Liyun led the home side as the two women finished first and second, respectively, in the 23-player field made up of members and guests. Qin Guorong was the top man in third place.
As Carnoustie was the host venue of last year¡¯s British Open, the lucky draw included souvenirs from the championship as well as Scottish ties, neckerchiefs and pictures of the Old Course at St. Andrews.
At the dinner afterwards, where whisky from scotch distiller Talisker was flowing, the patrons were entertained by a slide show reviewing the 2006 and 2007 Scotland Tartan Days, and the famous Scottish golf courses.
Among the visitors were Angus Mayor Ruth Leslie Melville, David Valentine, Angus Council head of economic development, Stuart French, Carnoustie Country consultant, Eric Lawson, Angus Council economic development, David May, Angus Council, John White, St. Andrews Luxury Golf Tours, Gill Crawford, Scotland Angus Glamis Castle, Gordon Murray and Graeme Duncan of Carnoustie.
During the group¡¯s visit to Shandong and Tiger Beach Golf Links, a sister course of Carnoustie, Mr Valentine was honored as an honorary citizen of Weihai.
