Shanghai: The improvement of Shanghai’s top juniors was evident at the fifth leg of the Silport Junior tournament as the 33-player field took advantage of the sunny conditions to post some impressive scores over the Center and East course layouts.

Yang Mengtao gave notice he is a player to watch as he shot a sizzling round of five-over 77 to top the Division A Boys group. Tim Aubrie finished four strokes back but claimed the boys’ nearest-the-pin prize when he put his shot within 3.5 feet of the flag on the Center Course eighth.

Xie Renyi proved equally hot in the Division B Boys when he carded a six-over 78 to finish first, six shots ahead of He Yihao (84).

Other strong performance among the boys included Wu Suowei who also shot an impressive 77 to top Group C, well ahead of runner-up Timo (96). Zhu Riqui shot a 66 over nine holes to win Group D.

Chen Shiwen shot an 83 to emerge as gross champion in the Division A Girls, and added the nearest-the-pin prize when she put her tee shot six inches from the flag on the Center Course eighth. Huang Yiyi finished best among the girls when she took Group B with a round of 82, five shots ahead of Zhu Xiaoyu (87).

Other girl winners included He Sifan who shot an 86 to win Group C, and Chen Yiting, the Group D victor after carding a 56 over nine holes.

The winners of each division received tickets for the upcoming HSBC Champions event at Shanghai Sheshan.
