Shanghai: Colleagues of David Chang, the Philips China chief executive officer, celebrated their boss' retirement in grand style by staging the 2008 Philips Chairman Cup Golf Invitational for 15 people over the West and North Courses. The event was also the grand final of the Philips Friendship Golf Invitational.
With many of the Philips senior executives holding Silport memberships, the well-schooled participants took advantage of their course knowledge to stage a lively contest that was more about fun and participation than the score. In fact, the Philips executives usually meet at the club twice a month to socialize and play golf, using their time together as a platform to exchange ideas.
Playing under the New Peoria scoring system, Wang Xin topped his colleagues to claim the gross champion prize, followed by a Mr Michael. Leslie Chang, wife of David Chang, won the low nett prize with a score of nett 72. Mr Fabian was the low nett runner-up with a nett 73.
With old friends and co-workers gathered to celebrate Chang's retirement at the party afterwards, a Silport official presented the outgoing Philips head with a bouquet of flowers and thanked him for his support of the club over the years.
