Shanghai: With all eyes on Shanghai for the annual HSBC Champions event, China Business New Channel and China Mingsheng Bank celebrated the launch of their CBN Golf Invitational commercial tele-program with a tournament at Silport in effort to publicize the lender's commercial offerings.
The tournament, which was played under cloudy and windy autumn conditions over the East and Center courses, took on an element of mystery as an unnamed player, said to be a friend of Phil Mickelson, the HSBC Champions defending champion, was among the 44-player field.
The mystery guest, who showed up with Mickelson's stockbroker, Mr Kel, displayed his golf prowess as the 4.8 handicap topped the field with a round of six-over 78 under the New New Peoria scoring system.
Lu Wenchun finished tops among the locals as the 4.8 handicap finished three shots off the pace with an 81 to claim the gross runner-up honor. He Bin, a 7.2 handicap, was a shot further back.
Wu Liang, a 21.6 handicap, carded a 92 to win the nett champion prize with a nett 70.4, while Lu Jun (71.4) and the mystery guest (73.2) were nett runner-up and second runner-up respectively.
At the party afterwards, the players and guests were treated to a display of Chinese traditions with a fireworks display in the night sky and hostesses dressed in attractive red suits.
