Generation Gap Proves No Obstacle at Shanghai Silport Family Fun Competition

Shanghai: Silport members demonstrated there were some pretty good golfers coming up in their wake when about 30 children and their parents participated in the end-of-the-year Family Fun Competition under sunny skies over the North and West courses.

With the main point of the competition to allow parents and their offspring to enjoy a round together, with the junior talent assembled for the field it was clearly evident many of the children were regular players and improving rapidly.

Playing under the best ball scoring format, Yang Xiaoyong and his son Mengtao registered an impressive round of three-under 69 to win the gross champion award. Yang junior played a significant role in the win as he claimed one of the nearest-the-pin prizes when he put his tee shot closest to the flag on the difficult North Course sixth hole.

The father-and-son team of Nam Jung Eun and Nam Song Min were double winners on the day as they would finish gross runner-up with an even-par 72, beating Tu Yongjun and Tu Ye Hongyi on a countback, and adding the best-dressed team to their award haul.

Zhou Xueqiang and his son Xiaohui proved the best on the greens as the pair needed only 26 putts during their round to win the best putter award, followed by the father-daughter team of Chen Haibang and Chen Shiwen (27 putts) and Wang Shuhua and son Wang Jiajing (28 putts).

Other honors saw teen Tang Rongjian claim the other nearest-the-pin on the West Course sixth hole. Six-year-old Zhu Ruiqi and his dad Zhu Zhaolin and Shao Yang and his nine-year-old daughter Shao Mingyi were both recognized with a prize for courage for playing 18 holes. Li Zicong and Zhang Xinyu, frequent participants in the Silport junior series and promising talents both, each received a potential star award after playing their rounds with their father and mother respectively.

Eight others won awards through the lucky draw.
