Shanghai: Young victims of the Sichuan earthquake received a helping hand courtesy of Remy Martin and Mercedes-Benz when the two luxury brands staged the SGCU Cup Charity Golf competition at Silport, raising more than 150,000 yuan to help them continue their studies.

With a charitable mood permeating the air at Silport, the field of 87 players teed off over the Center and East courses under sunny but cool conditions in the Shanghai winter. Playing under a New New Peoria scoring format, Zhou Xiaowei topped the field when the 10.8 handicap shot a 10-over 82 to win the gross champion prize.

Qian Ping, a 16.8 handicap, shot an 87 for a nett 70.2 and the nett champion crown, while Su Tinghua (72.4) and Tang Yunfeng (73.2) were runner-up and second runner-up respectively.

At the prize presentation afterward, Fang Yuxiao, a representative of the young earthquake victims, took to the stage to express her gratitude to the golfers on behalf of her fellow students. Joining her in the ceremony was a Dr Zhang, a well-known psychologist who had come to the party free of charge to provide consultation to the girl, assessing the impact the earthquake had left on her emotionally.
