Shanghai: Happy Golf, known for bringing a bit of sex appeal to the China golf scene, as well as in providing a full calendar of events largely for women throughout the year, was graced with a day of glorious sunshine when it staged its namesake Ladies’ Challenge 2009 tournament at Silport.

Playing on the East and Center course layouts under a New Peoria scoring format, Xu Yan bested the 30-player field when she registered a nett 72.8 for the nett champion honor. Fu Mingmin finished runner-up with a nett 74.2, beating Lin Yingxiu on a count-back.

Cai Hong registered the low round of the day when she carded an 85 for the gross champion title. Other winners included Celina The who claimed the nearest-the-pin prize when she put her tee shot to within five feet of the flag on the Center Course eighth hole, and Sun Li the long drive with a 230-yard tee shot on the East Course ninth hole.

A luncheon prize ceremony followed the golf.
