Stormy Weather Fails to Dampen Generous Spirit at Remy Martin SGCU Charity Cup

Shanghai: Needy groups proved the big winner at the Remy Martin SGCU Charity Cup when a field of 220 golfers raised more than 55,600 RMB during a storm-delayed tournament played over Silport¡¯s four courses.

With the weather hot but overcast in the morning, members of the Shanghai Golf Charity Union (SCGU) competed in eight unofficial teams with each group sporting colorful uniforms. Among those competing in the 36-hole event were Team Harimau, Team ShenFei + Merlion, Team Shanghang Holiday Eagle, Team Chang Cao, Team Elite CEO, Team LongSheng, Team 3D and Team New Hongqiao.

As a storm rolled in about 4pm and cut play short Team Harimau, Team Shanghang Holiday Eagle, Team LongSheng and Team New HongQiao were declared the winners. Each was awarded 8,000 RMB and unanimously donated their prizes to the SGCU.

A one-year membership card at Silport on offer for a hole-in-one at the eighth hole of either the West or Center courses went unclaimed.

At the prize ceremony afterwards hosted by actor Lin Dongfu, two young survivors of the Sichuan earthquake serenaded the guests assembled. Bruce, the Remy Martin brand ambassador, further captured the crowd¡¯s attention when he demonstrated the finer points of drinking champagne. Silport chairman Beta Soong added to funds raised when he successfully bid 5,000 RMB at the charity auction.
