Kim a Dominant Force at Korean Chamber ¡®Friendship Invitational¡¯

The Korean Chamber of Commerce made a welcome return to Silport for the second time this year when it staged its ¡®Friendship Golf Invitational¡¯ tournament for a field of 132 Korean expats from the Shanghai and Suzhou area.

With the event coinciding with the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the Korean Temporary Government representative office in Shanghai, an organizer for the event said the tournament was about using golf as a business platform to bring together locally-based Korean entrepreneurs.

Playing over the West and North courses in a New Peoria scoring format, the sunny conditions proved ideal for Kim Il-soo as he dominated the proceedings, taking away two prizes for the day. Playing off an impressive 1.2 handicap, Kim shot even-par 72 for a nett 70.8 and the men¡¯s low gross champion honor. Driving proved just one of his strong points as he also claimed a long-drive prize with a 300-yard rocket on the North Course second hole. Lee Joung-won (nett 73.4) was runner-up after a round of 77.

Jeon Hwan-tae captured the nett champion prize as the 15.6 handicap shot 84 for a nett 68.4. Oh Myoung, who won the ladies long drive with a 250-yard blast on the North Course seventh hole, was runner-up with a nett 70.4, followed by Kim Hyung-sul (70.6), Lee Chan-hee (71.8) and Park Jeong-yong (72).

In the ladies division, Yang So-mi emerged the gross champion after shooting an 86 for a nett 74, while Kim Myoung-sun was runner-up after an 87 and nett 71.4. Park Me-kyung won the ladies nearest-the-pin when she put her tee shot to within two feet of the flag on the North Course sixth hole.

Son Chan-kyu and Kim Yong-name were the men¡¯s nearest-the-pin winners, while Jin Sung-hye won the other men¡¯s long drive with a 180 yard tee shot on the West Course ninth hole.
