Dow Greater China entertained its VIP customers in royal fashion when it hosted a golf day for 83 players over Silport¡¯s North and West courses.
The occasion was especially significant as it marked a farewell for Ken Jewsbury, the company¡¯s longtime commercial director (basis and performance chemicals), who will be retiring at the end of the year. Jewsbury, who has been playing golf for more than 40 years, has been a Silport member and could be regularly seen at the club most Saturdays.
After the rules of the Texas Scramble scoring format were explained to the participants, the tournament teed off under cloudy but dry conditions when Jewsbury and Jim McIlvenney, Dow Asia-Pacific president, hit the ceremonial tee shots.
With the field including guests from Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong, as well as local players, the winning team registered a nett score of 55.62. A particularly popular feature of the tournament was the ¡°Beat the Pro¡± contest as 11 players beat the Silport David Leadbetter Academy professional in attendance to win a prize.
Other honors for the day went to James Yan who won the nearest-the-pin when he put his tee shot to within 1.2-yard of the flag on the North Course sixth hole, and Y.L. Tseng who took the closest to the line on the West Course third hole.
Jewsbury, who will give way to Carlos Lansangan to organize next year¡¯s tournament, and the other Dow Greater China representatives paid tribute to Silport at the presentation luncheon praising the club¡¯s beauty and professionalism of its caddies.
