¡®Tokyo Six¡¯ Universities Inaugurate Silport¡¯s New Bent Grass Greens

All Nippon Airways staged a memorable day for the local Japanese community at Silport when the carrier hosted the Ninth Golf Championship for alumni of six Tokyo universities.

The presence of Hiromune Takamura from the Silport David Leadbetter Golf Academy proved of great interest to the 90-strong field as prior to the event the Japanese teaching pro demonstrated a 3D technology designed to help golfers improve their movement.

With the event marking the reopening of the East and Center courses after being closed for four months to convert their greens to Bent grass, the improved putting surfaces drew very positive reviews from the players.

Playing under a New Peoria scoring format, alumni representing Japan¡¯s oldest institute of higher education, Keio University, dating back to 1858, raised the trophy ahead of first runner-up Waseda University. Tokyo University was second runner-up, followed by Meiji University and Hosei University.

Nishiyama Toshiro was honored as the top individual as the 7.2 handicap shot a 78 in the overcast conditions for a nett 70.8.

At the prize presentation following the golf, the guests renewed acquaintances and a representative from each team sang their school song to much applause.
