The wet conditions did little to dampen the enthusiasm for Silport¡¯s first junior tournament of the year as about 40 players contested the 2010 Spring Leg held over the East and Center courses.
With the wind blowing and rain falling, the inclement weather provided a good lesson for the young players on how to compete under any condition. The field received strong support from many of the parent in attendance who ventured out onto the course to cheer on the kids.
Yu Song Bai posted a 90 for the low round of the day to win the boys Group A (ages 14-17) champion honor, followed by runner-up Wong Sheng Liang (95). Zhang Xin Yu took the girl¡¯s Group A prize with a round of 97.
Wu Suo Wei topped the boy¡¯s Group B (ages 11-13) with a 91, closely followed by He Yi Hao at one stroke back. He Si Fan was the top girl for the age group after registering a 94, while Shannon Su was a distant runner-up with 107.
Yu Yan Hao won the boy¡¯s Group C (ages 9-10) and added the nearest-the-pin prize on the Center Course eighth hole when he put his tee shot to within 10 feet of the flag. Zhang Yun Ci was runner-up, while Ye Lei was the top girl in the age group with a 97.
Other scores saw Shi Yu Li win the Group D title with a round of 51 over nine holes against boys and girls ages eight and under. She also won the girl¡¯s nearest-the-pin when she put her tee shots to within seven feet of the flag on the Center Course eighth hole. Wu Jin Yu was runner-up, one shot further back.
A prize ceremony followed the golf as Silport general manager David Chen and DLGA Director Michael Dickie gave welcoming speeches to the excited youngsters.
