Wang Proves a Ray of Sunshine in the Rain at Silport Ladies Challenge

Shanghai: The wet conditions did little to dampen the steady play of Wang Ai Ming as the 12 handicap carded a round of 87 to win the Silport Ladies Challenge against a field of 30 players over the North and West courses.

With Silport general manager David Chen and Silport David Leadbetter Golf Academy head pro Michael Dickie on hand to make the welcoming speeches, Wang, playing under a New New Peoria scoring system, captured the gross champion honor on the strength of her strong performance off the tee. As evidence, she also won the longest drive prize with a 200-yard blast on the West course ninth hole.

The conditions also agreed with Christine Mah. Playing the course for the first time, the 26.4 handicap shot a 99 for a nett 72.6 to claim the nett champion prize, just ahead of Yan Shan Yang (nett 73) and second runner-up Zhang Lei Min (73.6).

Other performances of note included Chen Mao Zi who took the nearest-the-pin prize when she put her tee shot to within 18 inches of the flag on the North Course third hole, and Lucky Five winners Xu Yan, Alice Tan, Cai Juan, Gu Shu Zhen, Ai Yu Lian and Ning Ni Jie.

The sponsors were in abundance for this important platform for the development of womenĄŻs golf as each participant received a free gift and the opportunity to win prizes through a lucky draw.
