Shanghai: Strong winds and sunny skies proved the story at the Mercedes Trophy 2010 Dealer Qualifying Round as about 40 players contested the April tournament over SilportĄ¯s North and West courses.
Guan Zhi Ping provided a warm welcoming speech for the guests assembled as the Kunshan Star Automobile Service Co introduced three new Mercedes Benz on display in the clubhouse and announced that a hole-in-one on the North Course third hole would win a car. Despite the excitement generated by the generous offer, the prize went unclaimed.
With the wind playing havoc with the scores, Lin En Jian, an 18 handicap, managed to keep his game under control in carding a 98 for the gross champion prize. Zhang Ming Jie (99) finished runner-up, beating Zhao Zhong Chen on a count back.
The nett category proved equally as competitive as Huang Xuan Wei, a 21.6 handicap, shot a 101 for a nett 79.4 and the nett champion prize. Silport member Li Li Yun (79.6) was a close runner-up after shooting 100, while Zhang Yao Zhang (79.8) was second runner-up.
The award ceremony following the golf proved a memorable event as it was clear much effort had been put into the entertainment for the evening. Among those on hand were ballet dancers, modern dancers, a magic show, as well as singers. Of particular interest was a history of Mercedes Benz introduced by attractive car models.
The winners of this tournament now advance to the final round to be contested at Silport May 12.
