China CBN Gets Down to Business in Impressive Silport Return

Shanghai: China CBN, one of the country¡¯s top business media outlets, made a welcome return to Silport when it hosted its Golf Challenge event, this time in a co-sponsorship with Kunming¡¯s famed Spring City Golf and Lake Resort.

With about 100 players on hand for the tournament, guests heard from Spring City marketing director Hu Wei with the purchase of a villa at the Yunnan province resort they would receive a complimentary membership to play the club¡¯s famed courses designed by Jack Nicklaus and Robert Trent Jones II respectively.

After a cold start to the year, the China CBN golf event truly felt like spring as among those enjoying the sunny conditions were former table tennis world champion Jiang Jia Liang, He Ping, chairman of the China CBN golf committee, and Wang Li Xing, Shanghai Golf Association vice chairman.

Playing over the North and West courses under a New New Peoria scoring format, Xu Xiao Qing topped the field when the six handicap shot an 80 for the gross champion honor, just ahead of Jin Qi (81) and Liu Wei Lin (82).

Yu Chun Lei claimed the nett champion honor when the 14.4 handicap shot an 87 for a nett 72.6, ahead of Jin Long Zhen (73.2) and Sun Feng (73.6).

Zhang Qing Long¡¯s two birdies earned him the most birdies prize, while an offer of a Lexus ES240 went unclaimed for an ace on the difficult North Course third hole.

The post-golf party proved as equally entertaining as the on-course action that day. Following a draw for the names of four players, those selected were asked to teach putting to four women, all non-golfers, to hilarious results. The two winners received golf packages to Spring City for their good sportsmanship.

Among the impressive prizes on offer included stay-and-play golf packages at Spring City with an air ticket, courtesy of Shanghai Airlines, to Kunming. Other prizes included a Raymond Weil watch, Lancome man sunscreen, a Shanghai Hilton accommodation coupon, a Qatar Airways business class ticket between Shanghai and Europe, and a Callaway wood, among others.
