 Shanghai: In one of the most elegant events of the Silport year, Cheng Zhang Ning and Li Ling Na successfully defended their Silport Best Partner Cup title against a field of more than 80 participants over the North and West courses.
In an event requiring dressing up for the post-golf award ceremony, Chen and Li ensured their return to the podium when the pair combined to card a gross 65 for the win in the Best Ball format. Li¡¯s strong play off the tee backstopped the pair as she also claimed the longest-drive prize with a 260-yard blast.
The pairing of Zuo Xue Yi and Li Juan were a distant runner-up six shots off the pace at 71, followed by Tan Zhi Ming and Liu Ling, Chen Jian and Zhang Ai Wen, Qian Jing Hong and Sun Li, and Zhou Jie and Xia Xiao Qin.
With the rain falling before the tournament but stopping once play started, the team of Peter Miller and Yan Shan Ying had no problem navigating the slow greens as they required only 20 putts for their round, winning the Best Putt Partner Champion in the process. Liu Sheng Ping and Tang Li Ping were runner up with 21 putts.
Using Mizuno clubs, the sponsor of separate long drive and nearest-the-pin challenge events, Xia Xiao Qin took the former with a 270-yard drive on the West ninth hole, while Sun Huan Ying won the latter when she put her shot to within 18 inches of the cup on the West second hole.
Zhang Hai Qing showed the strength of the women in the field when she took the regular nearest-the-pin prize, landing her ball to within 2.5 feet of the flag on the North Course third hole.
As is the tradition at the Best Partner Competition ¨C the event is very much a fashion show, as well as a platform to demonstrate your golfing prowess ¨C three couples were identified for the best-dressed partners prize. After consultation among Silport staff and a show of hands from those in attendance, Ma Gui Rong and Xing Wei Ying walked up the red carpet to claim their prize as the best dressed partners.
