Shanghai: Johnnie Walker, a longtime supporter of golf at both the amateur and professional levels, walked into Jiangsu province recently when the scotch whisky giant hosted a qualifying round for its namesake championship at Silport.
With 80 players competing for eight qualifying spots for the regional final, the competition was fierce and hot, literally, as the sun beat down on the field playing over the West and North courses.
Ching Guo Rong topped the field when the six handicap shot a 77 for nett 71 and the gross champion honor. Kong Qi claimed the nett champion prize when the12 handicap shot a 79 for nett 67 and the nett champion prize. Kim Kwon Tai (68.2) was runner-up and Henri Berthe (68.4) second runner-up.Xiong Xiong, Su Shi Ming and Dai Han Zhou each claimed a nearest-the-pin prize.
The winner of the regional final gets a ticket to the Johnnie Walker Championship in Scotland, while the victor of that event will receive a golf vacation with Greg Norman, the legendary Great White Shark.
