Shanghai: Charity proved the big winner at the American Chamber of Commerce¡¯s eighth annual golf tournament at Silport as about 120 American expats and locally-based U.S. companies demonstrated their commitment to helping those in need.
Under the guidance of AmCham Shanghai¡¯s longtime President Brenda Foster, this year the body is working with the China Foundation for Poverty to build a seniors¡¯ activity center in Sichuan province. Other funding is supporting the Heifer International¡¯s Community Rehabilitation Program and the Mother and Infant Care Program in cooperation with the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation and Shanghai Roots and Shoots¡¯ Million Tree Project.
Playing under a Texas Scramble format over the East and Center courses, the foursome of Brian Kaiser, Nancy Gougarty, Rodney Rodavich and Rashid Salahutdin took advantage of the hot and sunny conditions to registered a 66 for the low-gross honor.
In the team nett competition, the group of John Carpenter, Martin Takahasai, Bob Lifsey and Brian Darling combined for a nett 58.62 to finish first overall.
At the prize presentation afterwards, Foster, a longtime Silport member, thanked the club on behalf of AmCham and Eagle Ottawa, the main sponsor of the tournament.
